Subtle changes that make a huge impact!
We have over 100 surfaces and backgrounds to choose from, but we tend to keep going back to a handful of them again and again for a variety of clients and aesthetics. Changing up the look with different lighting styles, props, and overall subject matter change the entire look and feel of the surface!
At surface level (see what we did there? 😏), photography surfaces don't always show their full potential until after seeing the final image!
Take a look below to see how we think outside the box to use the same surfaces in different ways!
1. Colorful Paper Sweeps
Looking for a quick pop (or punch) of color? We love opting for colorful paper sweeps to bring flat lays or product-scapes to life.
Who would’ve thought that this Bubble Gum Pink sweep could perfectly showcase a springy margarita and enhance a moody grapefruit cocktail?!
2. Marble
We. Love. Marble. This is one of our go-to surfaces — and for good reason as food photographers!
What better way to showoff dishes, recipes and ingredients than on a surface that mimics a kitchen counter?
The white marble surface brings equal amounts of bright and clean energy with inviting, home cooking vibes!
Plus, with a surface this versatile, what’s not to love?!
3. Flooring
This one usually surprises folks, but we’re big fans of laminate flooring as photography surfaces!
We’ll use flooring over our white concrete floors to change the mood of a photo (left) or pop it right over a table to give a different aesthetic to a flatlay.
This breakfast scene was shot over our dark cherry wood dining table, but grey faux-wood flooring gives this table scene the perfect amount of farmhouse-chic that our client was wanting!
